Everton midfielder Ross Barkley was left out of Gareth Southgate’s England squad to take on Malta and Slovenia in World Cup qualifiers- and fans on Twitter questioned the decision to leave him out.
Interim England manager Southgate has taken over the reigns as national boss following the shock departure of Sam Allardyce last Tuesday following a newspaper investigation.
Supporters questioned the decision making of Southgate, who selected Stoke City right-back Glen Johnson and Manchester United winger Jesse Lingard in his first squad.
Fans asked why Toffees midfielder Barkley was not selected, but the likes of Johnson and Lingard were, as they labelled the England team as the worst squad ever.
Additionally, one supporter asked why manager’s don’t rate the young English midfielder, after he was left out of the previous national squad by then-manger Allardyce.
But other fans did state that Barkley needs to be surrounded by better quality players and needs to have the burden taken off his shoulders, if he is to improve.
Overall, the Goodison Park faithful were disappointed that their star player was left out of the England reckoning once again.
Here is a selection of messages from Everton fans reacting to Barkley’s England snub:

Barkley has made nine appearances in all competitions this term for Ronald Koeman’s side scoring two goals and providing one assist.
The 22-cap England midfielder has scored two goals and provided three assists for his country and was part of the national side that got dumped out of Euro 2016 to Iceland, but he failed to make a single appearance in France.
