Idrissa Gueye is undergoing a medical at Everton after the club triggered his £7.2 million release – and Toffees supporters took to Twitter to express their delight that Ronald Koeman had finally landed his first major signing.
ESPN reported on Thursday afternoon that the 26-year-old had been given permission by Aston Villa to travel down to Merseyside as he finalises his move from the Championship to the Premier League.
Many Everton supporters were encouraged by the imminent signing, despite the Senegal international arriving from a team that had conceded 76 goals last term and performed abysmally as they were relegated.
Supporters have been struck by Gueye’s attributes and were hoping that manager Koeman does not make him the sole signing of the summer.
However, there was one fan who did not understand why the Toffees targeted a midfielder who was part of one of the worst Premier League teams in living memory last term.
