John Stones could be set to join Pep Guardiola at Manchester City and become the third major signing of the Spaniard’s reign in a deal that could be a whopping £50million – and supporters of the Toffees have reacted with mixed emotions over the transfer.

It has been reported that City are preparing to break the bank for the 22-year-old centre-back and are confident that they will sign him once he returns from his Euro 2016 break.

The Toffees have placed a £50million valuation on Stones, but that has done nothing to deter City and a firm bid is expected to be placed imminently.

The centre-back has showed flashes of potential throughout a tumultuous season for Everton, playing in 41 games in all competitions but he did not figure for England at Euro 2016 after being omitted in favour of Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill.

Many Everton fans have expressed their dismay over the departure of Stones, but they did concede that the fee they are expecting to receive for him would be an incredible one for the club.

Toffees fans will be hoping that Ronald Koeman shows the same nous as he did at Southampton when replacing their departing players.

In other Everton news, the Toffees’ interest in midfielder Axel Witsel has been revealed to be concrete.
