Everton are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon midfielder William Carvalho, according to a report.
The 24-year-old helped Portugal lift the Euro 2016 trophy on Sunday, as he played the full 120 minutes in a 1-0 victory over hosts France.
The Sun claim that Ronald Koeman is keen on bringing the defensive midfielder to the Premier League but will face stiff competition from rivals Southampton and Leicester.
Carvalho played a prominent role in this summer’s tournament for Portugal, starting five of the seven games and it is reported that he is valued at £20million by current club side Sporting Lisbon.
The player burst on to the International stage at the Under-21s European Championships last summer, where he was named as the Player of the tournament for his solid performances.
The midfield powerhouse rose through the Sporting ranks as a youth player and has been a main figure during the last three seasons, after loan spells at Fatima and Circle Brugge as a youngster.
Carvalho only signed a new Sporting contract earlier in the year which keeps him at the club until 2020, as the club put in a £35million release clause for the new Everton target.
The Merseyside club have also been linked with a move for Fiorentina midfielder Milan Badelj, as new manager Koeman is keen to bolster his squad for a European push next season.
