Ronald Koeman said Everton have adopted their high-pressing playing style because it is what the fans want to see at Goodison Park.

The Blues’ boss told Everton’s monthly magazine that the fans like to see the team playing with desire and fight so that’s why his team try to play like that.

The Dutchman hopes his side’s new playing style can help improve the atmosphere at Goodison Park and encourage fans to enjoy watching his team play.

“I know people like it when the team fight, when the team is pressing, when the team is playing football and that was one of the targets for us to make that happen in this team,” said Koeman, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo.

“Sometimes, of course, you need to play football from the back but sometimes direct play can be more dangerous and if you can changes that in the game, that’s another quality again.

“This is one of the reasons that we like to press home because they don’t like a team waiting.”

Since taking over in June 2016, Koeman has introduced an energetic, high-pressing style of play on his team and it’s seems to have paid off so far.

Everton recorded an important 1-1 draw with the league leaders on Saturday and currently sit in sixth place after a fairly encouraging start to the season. They travel to Burnley on Saturday for their next league fixture.

The Toffees have won four of their opening eight fixtures and picked up good results against Manchester City and Tottenham.
