Jose Mourinho has placed John Stones on a shortlist of players he would like to sign for Manchester United this summer, according to a report.
The former Chelsea manager is an extremely unpopular figure at Everton after he relentlessly and publicly pursued Stones at last summer while at Stamford Bridge.
Everton were eventual victors in that situation, fending off bids upwards of £30million, but Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano has tweeted out a list of candidates that Mourinho wants at Old Trafford, with Stones included.
The 22-year-old missed just eight games all season for Everton, but has been at the heart of one of the Premier League’s most suspect defences.
Everton conceded 55 goals in 38 league matches this season, managing ten clean sheets in total, but kept just two in their final 13 matches of the campaign.
Mourinho will be hoping to pounce while Everton reorganise themselves after sacking manager Roberto Martinez at the end of the season.
Martinez was a big part of refusing to allow Stones to leave last summer, but was relieved off his duties in May after three years in charge at Goodison Park.
Stones is under contract with Everton until 2019 and would presumably still command a hefty fee as one of the most coveted young centre-backs in England.
In other Everton news, the club has had to go back to the drawing board after a double managerial snub.
