Everton have offered Romelu Lukaku a £135,000-a-week deal to stay at Goodison Park this summer, according to a report.

The Mirror claims that the Merseysiders want to make Lukaku the highest paid player in Everton’s history, in order to prevent Chelsea bringing him back to London.

The Daily Mail have reported that Chelsea’s chase for Lukaku has infuriated the Merseysiders, who intend to pull out all the stops to keep their prize striker this summer.

The stubborn stance is one that Everton adopted last summer with Chelsea, when they refused to allow John Stones to join the London giants despite receiving four bids culminating in a £37million offer.

It was reported on Tuesday that Chelsea want the Lukaku deal done before the opening League game against West Ham on 15 August.

Lukaku left Chelsea two years ago when he became the club’s £28million club-record signing following an impressive season on loan at the club.

The forward has scored 61 goals in 127 appearances for Everton, including 25 in 46 matches last season in a team that finished 11th in the Premier League.

In other Everton transfer news, Liverpool have blocked a loan move for a 25-year-old as the Toffees join the race.
