Everton’s Kevin Mirallas is desperate for fellow countryman Romelu Lukaku to sign a new contract at Goodison Park, despite having three years left on his his current deal.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman announced that Lukaku, who has been linked heavily with a move to Chelsea all summer, has committed his long-term future to Everton and withdrawn his transfer request.
Now, speaking to the Express, Mirallas has spoken of his desire to see Lukaku sign a new contract after the target-man came off the bench to inspire a Toffees comeback against West Brom on Saturday.
“The club want to try to sign very good players but they also want to try to keep their best players,” Mirallas told the Express.
“I hope Romelu signs a new contract with the team because he is a very important player. In the first 30 minutes we had a lot of space for Gerard Deulofeu but it was difficult.
“The defenders of West Brom are very strong so it was not easy. But when we changed with Romelu, he was a real striker.”
Lukaku left Chelsea for Everton two years ago when he became the Merseysiders’ £28million club-record signing following an impressive season on loan at the club.
The former Anderlecht striker has scored an impressive 61 goals in 128 appearances for Everton, including 25 in 46 matches last season in a team that finished 11th in the Premier League.
The turn of events comes as a surprise as Everton were increasingly resigned to losing their prize asset, who had revealed earlier in the summer that he wanted to leave.
In other Everton transfer news, this Serie A star could be moving to Merseyside soon.
