Swansea captain Ashley Williams is on a shortlist of centre-backs drawn up by Ronald Koeman, according to a report.

A Report in The Mirror this week claimed that Everton were close to agreeing a £10million deal for the Swansea defender after making him their top target.

However, the Liverpool Echo now claim those reports are wide of the mark. Everton are still interested but their pursuit isn’t that advanced as yet. They also claim that Everton are still very interested in Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.

The Serie A centre-back is thought to have attracted a £46million bid from Everton who have not given up hope they can fend off interest from Chelsea.

Williams on the other hand is under contract until 2016 and Swansea are believed to value their star man above the £10million mark after an impressive summer with Wales in Euro 201.

The 31-year-old captained his side to a semi-final appearance against Portugal in the tournament and has been at Swansea for the last eight years.

Williams is claimed to be open to a move away from the Liberty Stadium, but Swansea will not engage with negotiations until the defender explicitly asks to leave.
