Axel Witsel is set to reject interest from Chelsea and Napoli because he is intent on joining Everton, according to a report.

The Zenit St Petersburg midfielder has reportedly held talks with Everton over a £30million move to Merseyside and it now seems the Toffees have convinced him to sign.

Reliable Sky Italia journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed on his website that Witsel has set his mind on linking up with Ronald Koeman at Everton.

This comes just hours after the Sun reported Chelsea were attempting to hijack the deal for Witsel.

However, Everton seem to have beaten off the stern competition and could announce Witsel as their player as soon as Thursday.

It was thought Witsel was much more keen on a move to Stamford Bridge over Everton, but Napoli have now reportedly switched their attentions from Witsel to other midfield options because of his insistence that he wants to sign for the Toffees.

Witsel was with the Belgium national side up until last week when they were spectacularly knocked out by Wales in the quarter-finals.

The combative midfielder has already made it clear to his club that he wants to leave after four years in Russia and is in the final year of his contract.

Witsel impressed his suitors again this season, particularly in the Champions League as Zenit dominated their group and made it to the last-16.

The Belgian has 72 appearances for his country despite and his arrival would mark a significant beginning to Koeman’s reign as Everton boss.

In other Everton news, Koeman is targeting a fellow Dutchman this summer.
