Fulham are targeting a January loan move for Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Football Insider sources understand.

The second-tier London club are keeping close tabs on the availability of the midfielder, who has failed to break into the Chelsea team this season.

The 19-year-old was promised regular appearances in Jose Mourinho’s side this season but has only played 209 minutes, starting three times and appearing as a substitute once.

A number of Championship clubs are interested in taking Loftus-Cheek on loan but Fulham believe they have a chance of winning the race for Loftus-Cheek due to their west London location.

Sources have said that Loftus-Cheek would rather get first-team experience at another club than sit on the bench at Stamford Bridge.

Ahead of the season, Mourinho was adamant that he would not let Loftus-Cheek join the 33 Chelsea players already sent out on loan.

However, the pair have had a fractious relationship in the past and the Portuguese publicly criticised the England Under-21 international during Chelsea’s summer tour after a match against Sydney.

Loftus-Cheek has been hailed as a player capable of breaking the mould of youngsters at the club who have failed to establish themselves in the first team after emerging from the youth ranks.
