Up to five Premier League clubs are trying to sign wantaway Leeds star Sam Byram in the January window.
Manager Steve Evans revealed on Wednesday that he is unsure whether the club’s prize asset will be at Elland Road beyond the end of the month.
Byram’s reputation is growing rapidly, and on Tuesday the versatile midfielder was crowned the Championship PFA Fans’ Player of the Month for December, in which he scored three goals and grabbed an assist to help Leeds stay unbeaten during the month.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on Wednesday morning, Evans gave an update on whether Byram, 22, will still be at Leeds next month.
“I can’t say whether he will be there or not,” Evans said. “The young man has made it clear through his representatives that he doesn’t want to extend his contract beyond the summer.
“I’ve spoken to a couple [of Premier League clubs] before the weekend and a couple during the weekend. There are four or five clubs that want to get Sam. It would be unprofessional to name names.
“They’re good clubs. He has every attribute to play in the Premier League but it has to be right for Leeds United and the young man.”
A source close to Byram has told Football Insider that Liverpool, Aston Villa and Tottenham are among the team keen on acquiring the services of the midfielder, who can also slot in at full-back.
