Ayoze Perez has revealed that Rafa Benitez’s rotation policy at Newcastle is heaping pressure on fringe stars like himself.

The Spaniard scored twice against Ipswich on Saturday as the Toon ran out 3-0 winners over Mick McCarthy’s men, with Perez also providing the assist for Matt Ritchie to score Newcastle’s third.

Perez revealed that once you are given your chance in Benitez’s first team, you must take it.

“You have to think about the next game then work for it,” Perez told the Evening Chronicle. “And that’s it until the end of the season.

“We have to try to find the same performances and be ready to take your chance. Once you get back on the pitch you must perform.”

Perez has been in impressive form for the Magpies this season, scoring five goals in 12 league and cup appearances. Of those 12 matches, Perez has started just half of those.

Perez, 23, was also named in the EFL Team of the Week alongside the likes of Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce and Everton loanee Russ Griffiths.

Since his £2million move to Tyneside, the versatile Perez has scored 18 goals in 88 league and cup encounters, adding a further five in assists.

Perez is expected to feature against Reading on Tuesday night in the fourth round of the EFL Cup, as the Magpies look to book a place in the quarter finals.

In other Newcastle news, this midfielder has revealed his decision to leave this Premier League side in the summer was to test himself.
