Benik Afobe wants Arsenal to win the Premier League title but is concerned they will once again fall at the final hurdle.
The former Gunners youth product faced his old club for the first time on Sunday as Arsenal defeated Bournemouth 2-0 at the Vitality Stadium.
It was the first win in five league matches for Arsene Wenger’s side as they got their title challenge back on track.
“It would be great if Arsenal win the title but it has been the same story every year,” observed Afobe. “This is the time of the season when they normally fall behind and start losing games they should be winning.
“They obviously have a lot of world-class players and I have only good things to say about them.
“But there are a lot of fantastic teams fighting them for the title this year and also a lot of teams no-one believed could be in the race. No-one expected Tottenham would be challenging to win the League and Leicester as well.
Striker Afobe, who joined Bournemouth from Wolves for £10million in January just 12 months after leaving Arsenal in a £1.8million deal, has scored three goals in just five matches for his new club.
The 22-year-old was sent on loan six times by Arsenal between 2010 and 2015 before his Wolves move and did not play a single match for the senior team.
“So Arsenal’s next game against Leicester this Sunday is obviously massive.
“People keep waiting for Leicester to start dropping points but they keep on winning and now they have the confidence that they can actually win the League.
“They went to Manchester City and won and next week at Arsenal will be a huge game for both teams.”
