PREVIEW By North-west correspondent Alex Stevens
Louis van Gaal could name all three of his leading forwards in the Manchester United team that faces Crystal Palace on Wednesday.
Fifth-placed United need to win to keep the pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal in the race for a top-four finish.
This could mean Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial and man-of-the-moment Marcus Rashford all starting a match for the first time.
Van Gaal made five changes on Saturday for the home clash against bottom club Aston Villa, whose 1-0 defeat condemned them to relegation for the first time in 29 years.
The Dutchman could once again ring the changes as he prepares his players for a crucial week that ends with Sunday’s FA Cup semi-final against Everton at Wembley.
Anthony Martial, who is arguably the most important United outfield player given his pace and penetration, was rested against Villa for the first 67 minutes of a laboured performance.
Van Gaal reckoned he could do without the Frenchman against such meek opponents, but he is almost certain to be recalled to play Palace, who will go to Old Trafford with confidence after their 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
Rooney is likely to get more minutes under his belt after playing two-thirds of the Villa match, although somewhat predictably he looked off the boil after two months on the sidelines.
That would not necessarily mean omitting brilliant young striker Marcus Rashford, who will be hopeful of keeping his place in the starting X1 for what would be a remarkable 13th consecutive match.
With Van Gaal consistently favouring Martial on the left flank, Rooney could start in the No10 role ahead of Jesse Lingard and Ander Herrera.
Michael Carrick will come back into the reckoning after being rested against Villa, which could mean one of Morgan Schneiderlin or Marouane Fellaini dropping down to the bench.
Timothy Fosu-Mensah, outstanding against West Ham last week, should be one of the first names on the team-sheet and given a chance at right-back if he is fully fit.
Manchester United (possible) De Gea; Fosu-Mensah, Smalling, Blind, Rojo; Carrick, Fellaini; Mata, Rooney, Martial; Rashford
