Timothy Fosu-Mensah took to Twitter to praise his fellow teenager Marcus Rashford in the wake of Manchester United’s FA Cup triumph against West Ham on Wednesday night.

Goals from Rashford and Marouane Fellaini were enough to give United a 2-1 win in a thunderous quarter-final replay at Upton Park and book their passage into the last four of the competition.

Fosu-Mensah, 18, was outstanding in only his seventh senior United appearance, first at right-back and then when he switched to left-back in the closing stages.

But it was the full-back’s equally youthful colleague Rashford who was awarded the man-of-the-match award by host broadcaster BBC for an electrifying display.

The 18-year-old striker, starting his 11th consecutive match since making his senior debut, broke the deadlock early in the second half when he manoeuvred some space in the box and produced an outstanding finish into the top corner.

Fosu-Mensah was impressed by the contribution of the striker, who has now scored six goals for United.

United’s win takes some of the pressure off manager Louis van Gaal following last Sunday’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham.

In other Manchester United news, pundit and broadcaster Stan Collymore has identified a failing the club have in common with four Premier League rivals.
