Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has been ruled out of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that, as reported by Football Insiderthe England international is injured in the wake of Tuesday night’s 2-0 Champions League defeat to Barcelona.

“He has a scan today, he will not be available for Sunday,” Wenger told the Arsenal website on Thursday afternoon.

Long-term absentees Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky are also unavailable for the showdown at Old Trafford at the weekend as Arsenal attempt to keep their title bid on track.

However, Brazilian defender Gabriel, who has been out for two weeks with a hamstring injury, could come into the reckoning after missing the last three matches.

Wenger revealed that the centre-back is set to return to training on Friday.

“He is coming back into the squad tomorrow, so we will see how he responds to that, but the signs are positive,” the manager explained. He might be available for Sunday.

“Everyone else is the same as before, so there’s no Rosicky, Cazorla, Wilshere.”
