Geoffrey Kondogbia is the most likely player to join Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to a report.
Sky Sports’ Football Whispers section claimed on Monday that the France international is the likeliest winter signing for Jurgen Klopp ahead of a possible concerted title bid.
Kondogbia, 23, joined Inter Milan from Monaco for £26million in the summer of 2015 but has had a mixed time in Serie A and could be available in the upcoming window.
Football Whispers, which gathers all transfer rumours across the globe and calculates the likelihood of them happening, rates it 3.5 out of 5 that Kondogbia will join Liverpool, with five the highest possible ranking and meaning it is a certainty.
“Kondogbia would be a welcome addition to the Liverpool midfield as the club look to shore up defensively but not limit their attacking ability,” write the Sky Sports website.
“Comparisons to Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira have been made and it’s easy to see why. He has the sort of playing profile which would see him thrive in the Premier League.”
Kondogbia is rated a more likely January signing for the Merseysiders than others linked by Sky, including Hoffenheim centre-back Niklas Sule, Burnley defender Michael Keane and Genoa striker Leonardo Pavoletti.
Kondogbia, who has five senior France caps, was expected to be a key figure for his country at Euro 2016 but did not make the cut after struggling at Inter.
He has started just four of the Italian club’s seven Serie A matches this season and suffered the humiliation of being substituted after just 28 minutes of the recent 1-1 draw against Bologna.
The versatile midfielder could be a great addition to Jurgen Klopp’s side as the 23-year-old’s high energy style would suit the German’s high pressing game.
In other Liverpool transfer news, this Reds youngster will snub interest to stay at Anfield as he wants first-team football.
