Aston Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor thanked fans on Instagram for their warm reception after he made a substitute appearance in their 2-1 win over Blackburn on Saturday afternoon.

The 30-year-old, who played in his first Villa Park game this season came on as a 68th minute substitute for Ross McCormack.

Forward Jonathan Kodjia scored a double in the second-half as he cancelled out Sam Gallagher’s opener just after the break.

The Ivory Coast international converted from the penalty spot after Jack Grealish was fouled by Gordon Greer and he doubled his tally 12 minutes later.

His 70th minute strike, which Agbonlahor was involved in, proved to be the difference as manager Steve Bruce remains unbeaten in his first five games in charge.

Promotion expert Bruce surprised many fans last Sunday when he introduced Agbonlahor as a ten-minute substitute against rivals Birmingham City.

He was given a further run out against Rovers as the former England international continues his return to first-team football.

Bruce’s men are now 14th in the league table with 21 points from 16 games, five points off Leeds, who hold the final play-off spot.
