Gabriel took part in full training for Arsenal on Saturday ahead of the team’s Premier League clash at Manchester United, Football Insider sources understand.

The centre-back was involved in the session with the senior squad after missing three matches with a hamstring injury.

However, key player Mesut Ozil was rested from training on Saturday, although he is in contention to start at Old Trafford.

Manager Arsene Wenger said at his media briefing on Friday that Gabriel would undergo fitness tests before being given the all-clear to play at Old Trafford in Sunday’s Premier League showdown.

Wenger said: “Gabriel has a test today and tomorrow and then we will see if he is available for the game.”

The likelihood is that Gabriel will now be named in the matchday squad to face United as Arsenal attempt to keep the pressure on leaders Leicester, who beat Norwich 1-0 on Saturday to extend their lead to five points.

In other Arsenal team news, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be sidelined for at least six to eight weeks with knee ligament damage after seeing a specialist.
