Garry Monk took to Twitter to hail a “deserved win” for Leeds in the aftermath of their 2-1 win over Barnsley on Saturday.

Monk’s side secured their fifth victory in six matches, and their fourth from five league encounters, after overcoming their Yorkshire rivals at Elland Road.

Goals from defender Kyle Bartley and playmaker Pablo Hernandez were enough to secure the three points and lift Leeds into the top half of the Championship table for the first time this season.

Monk, who was appointed manager in the summer, was delighted with the victory going into the two-week international break.

But the former defender has stressed the deep for improvement after Leeds climbed into the top half of the Championship table for the first time this season.

Speaking on his personal Twitter account on Saturday night in the aftermath of the win over Barnsley, Monk hailed the result.

He said: “Glad to get a deserved win going into the international break. We now need to use the coming days to keep on improving”.

Barnsley are still ahead of Leeds in the table on goal difference but Monk’s side are now 11th after increasing their points haul in the campaign to 16.
