BBC pundit Garth Crooks has named three Liverpool stars in his team of the week after Jurgen Klopp’s side hammered Premier League champions Leicester 4-1.
Goalscorers Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane continued their fine form at Anfield by finding the back of the net at Anfield on Saturday, while Adam Lallana’s stock has never been higher after scoring his second goal in the space of a week.
The former Southampton man scored Liverpool’s third with a belting right-footed finish into the top-left corner of Kasper Schmeichel’s net, which followed his 95th-minute winner against Slovakia to earn England a 1-0 win last week.
“Lallana’s all-round performance for club and country this week suggests that the player is finally coming to terms with the demands of playing for a big club,” Crooks wrote on BBC Sport. “He might even prove to be its leader in the end.”
Roberto Firmino was named in Crooks’ side after netting twice against Claudio Ranieri’s men, finishing neatly to open the scoring before sliding the ball into an empty net after Schmeichel was caught in no man’s land.
Club-record signing Mane also got in the act, after converting a square ball from Firmino to give Liverpool a 2-0 cushion in the first half.
The win was a convincing one after Klopp decided to leave Firmino’s compatriot Philippe Coutinho on the bench. The win has pushed the Merseyside giants into fifth with seven points from four games.
