Arsenal attacker Alexis Sanchez has been named in the Team of the Weekend by Garth Crooks.
Sanchez scored to give Arsenal a 2-0 lead as they went on beat Watford 3-1 on Saturday, with the Chilean also getting an assist as Mesut Ozil made it 3-0.
“This player is brave,” Crooks wrote on BBC Sport. “Alexis Sanchez is not afraid to go in where it hurts.
“This was perfectly illustrated when the Chilean had floated into the box in readiness to accept a beautiful lofted pass by Mesut Ozil, only to be flattened by Watford midfielder Nordin Amrabat.
“This is a feature of players who have a desire to score goals. They must put themselves on the line, which Sanchez has always been willing to do.
“His goal was world class and the cross for Ozil’s header had me jumping out of my seat on Final Score.
“He was the difference between Arsenal and Watford and why the Gunners demolished the Hornets in the first half.”
It was an important win for Arsenal, who have struggled in the league so far this season.
On the opening weekend they faced Liverpool, and with both teams struggling defensively they lost 4-3 at the Emirates.
Their defensive problems were remedied against Leicester the following week in a 0-0 draw, but one point from six was not the start the Gunners were hoping for.
The win over Watford will come as welcome relief, as will the arrivals of Lucas Perez and Shkodran Mustafi from Deportivo La Coruna and Valencia respectively.
In other Arsenal news, this is how they could line up after signings of Mustafi and Perez.
