Gary Lineker claimed on Twitter that Tottenham extending midfielder Dele Alli’s contract at the club was “a brilliant signing.”
It was revealed on Monday morning that the 20-year-old had agreed new terms at the club, taking his deal up to 2022.
He follows senior stars Christian Eriksen and Eric Dier in extending his deal at White Hart Lane with the north London club keen to push on from a third place finish in the last campaign.
Match of the Day host Lineker, who also played at Spurs during his career, took to his personal Twitter account to hail the new deal and claimed that it was much deserved for the youngster.
“Congratulations. Much deserved and a brilliant signing for Tottenham,” said Lineker on the social media site.
Alli was named the Premier League Young Player of the Season in the last campaign after starring in 33 encounters in the competition scoring 10 goals and providing nine assists.
He moved to White Hart Lane from Mk Dons in the 2015 winter window in a £5million deal and he has become a key part of the club’s attacking line-up.
The England international has made six appearances for the club in the new campaign in all competitions, scoring one goal during the emphatic 4-0 victory over Stoke.
In other Tottenham team news, Alli has revealed that he is delighted to have signed a new six-year deal with Spurs.
