Gary Neville has described Loris Karius as “shaky” and claimed he is “going to have to do a lot to convince me”.

The German was selected as the Liverpool goalkeeper for the fourth consecutive match, and the third league game in succession, in Monday’s 0-0 draw against Manchester United.

Karius kept a clean sheet in what was a drab encounter but had a few nervous moments in what was an Anfield performance that was well below par from the home side.

Sky Sports pundit and Manchester United legend Neville was not entirely impressed by his first glimpse of the summer signing from Klopp’s former club Mainz.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen Karius, this first 45 minutes and he’s going to have to do a lot to convince me,” Neville told Sky Sports’ live coverage of the Anfield clash.

“It’s very early in his Liverpool career but he does look a little bit shaky.”

It was Liverpool’s first clean sheet of the season in the Premier League although Karius had little to do against a United side that were set up primarily to stifle the home side.

Jurgen Klopp’s remain fourth in the table after blowing the opportunity to join leaders Manchester City at the summit.

By contrast, United are in seventh and five points behind rivals City.

In other Liverpool team news, former Everton midfielder Leon Osman gave a no-holds-barred verdict on Wayne Rooney slipping down the United pecking order on Monday.
