Everton have finalised the signing of Barcelona star Gerard Deulofeu, Football Insider sources understand.

The attacking midfielder, 21, arrived in Liverpool on Monday to complete the formalities of a switch to Goodison Park after Everton had agreed a £4.2million deal with the Spanish treble-winners.

Deulofeu returns to Merseyside following a successful loan spell at the club in 2013-14, when he made 29 appearances for Roberto Martinez’s team and scored four goals.

He spent last season on loan at Sevilla but found his chances limited to 15 starts and has opted to make a permanent switch to Everton rather than another temporary move.

However, Barcelona have insisted upon a buy-back clause in Deulofeu’s contract, which gives them first option on buying him back.

Deulofeu will become the club’s second signing ahead of next season after the arrival of Tom Cleverley on a free transfer from Manchester United.
