Olivier Giroud equalised for Arsenal in Wednesday’s thrilling Premier League clash against Liverpool after having his head stapled on the touchline.

Roberto Firmino gave the hosts an early lead at Anfield with a snap left-foot shot but Aaron Ramsey swiftly equalised after Joel Campbell received Giroud’s headed knock-on and slid the Welshman through on goal.

But Giroud clashed heads with Mamadou Sakho in the build-up and fell to the ground before having treatment from the Arsenal medics on the touchline.

Broadcasters BT Sport revealed that the French striker had one staple inserted into his head to close the wound before being allowed to return to the fray.

Firmino added a sensational second for Liverpool after 19 minutes to restore their lead but Giroud made it 2-2 just six minutes later when he got a slight touch on a whipped corner.

The Gunners spearhead showed no ill effects from his injury and won numerous first-half headers in what was a spellbinding opening period.
