Joe Gomez has posted a heartfelt message on Insragram in the aftermath of the devastating Liverpool news that sees Danny Ings sidelined for the entirety of the 2016-17 season.
Both Gomez and Ings missed the majority of last season with similar injuries, after tearing their cruciate ligaments in training sessions.
Now, Ings is set to miss the rest of this season as he undergoes surgery to correct cartilage in his right knee.
Posting on his personal Instagram account, 19-year-old Gomez claimed Ings will bounce back because he is “positive, down to earth and hardworking”.
Liverpool’s number 28 has already been out injured for more than a year during his time at Anfield, after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament during Jurgen Klopp’s first training session as Liverpool boss.
But the 24-year-old looked to have ended his year-long injury nightmare by coming on as a substitute against Tottenham in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
During his cameo appearance, Ings suffered a knock on his right knee after an innocuous challenge – different to the original injury sustained on his left knee.
Teammate Gomez was sidelined alongside Ings after injuring his knee with the England Under-21s, and they helped each other through the injuries.
Now, the former Burnley forward must go it alone as he looks to recover from his operation.
