Mario Gotze has given an emphatic response to criticism that he is out of shape by uploading a video of himself working out topless at home.
The German forward uploaded a video to his Snapchat account on Friday that showed him working out in his own house in what will be interpreted as an answer to scathing criticism this week from Mehmet Scholl.
Former Germany and Bayern Munich star Scholl accused Gotze of not putting in enough hours on the training field and allowing his body to slide since he arrived at Bayern in 2013.
Gotze’s video had no caption, but showed the player working out on a fitness machine, presumably in the comfort of his own home.
It has clearly been uploaded to demonstrate his commitment to conditioning and even suggest he is willing to put in the extra work outside of his training hours with his club.
It comes at a time when the 23-year-old’s place for club and country is in doubt. As reported by Football Insider, Gotze is a priority target for Liverpool in the summer as Jurgen Klopp targets a reunion with the 23-year-old former Borussia Dortmund forward.
With just over a year remaining on his Bayern contract, Liverpool are hopeful of securing the German’s services for as little as £20million in the summer.
Gotze put a difficult club season to one side as he scored in Germany’s 4-1 win over Italy on Tuesday night.
Nevertheless, report have been mounting that the German is unhappy with life at Bayern and Klopp praised his former player when quizzed recently about the possibility of Gotze arriving at Anfield in the summer.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds have stepped up their interest in a South American striker.
