Guillem Balague has tipped striker Lucas Perez to be a success at Arsenal.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Perez as he revealed his “99 per cent” confidence that the club would sign new players before next Wednesday’s transfer shut-off.
It emerged on Thursday night that the Gunners have beaten Everton to the signing of the Deportivo La Coruna striker after triggering the £17.1million release clause in the 27-year-old’s contract.
Sky Sports’ Spanish expert Balague believes that Perez will be able to adjust quickly to the Premier League after experience outside of La Liga.
“Someone who scores 17 goals in La Liga should be considered a top signing, especially when you consider Perez did that at Deportivo,” Balague told Sky Sports. “He’s fast, has a powerful left-footed shot, he’s clever and has been abroad already in Ukraine and Greece.
“That experience makes him different to other Spanish strikers that struggled in the Premier League in the past. He can play as a number nine or, more likely, on the right-hand side of attack.”
Arsene Wenger has opted to use Alexis Sanchez as a forward at the start of the season but many fans believes Arsenal need a new striker to compete with frontman Olivier Giroud in attack.
Lucas joined Deportivo last summer for £1.3million after spending the previous season on loan from PAOK.
The forward was in superb form last season and his 17 La Liga goals helped Deportivo escape the drop from Spain’s top flight.
In all competitions he scored 19 goals and supplied 11 assists from just 39 matches for the Spanish club.
In other Arsenal transfer news, their striker has been sent out on loan after the club agree terms.
