Harry Redknapp believes that Tottenham forward Harry Kane can be the Premier League top scorer this season.

The 23-year-old has made just six league appearances this season due to injury and scored three goals in that time.

Chelsea’s Diego Costa is currently leading the golden boot race with nine goals and is one ahead of Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero, with Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard further back with seven each.

Kane was the leading scorer in the league last season with his 25 goals, edging out Jamie Vardy and Aguero on 24.

Former Spurs manager Redknapp claims that Kane can still win the golden boot despite his absence through injury and the six-goal gap to in-form Costa.

“Kane will be close to being the leading goalscorer again this season,” Redknapp told football website Goal. “Everyone wrote him off last year after only four or five games and he ended up being the top scorer. He won’t be far away again this season, make no mistake.”

Kane missed 10 games in all competitions after sustaining ankle ligament damage against Sunderland in September.

The striker has been a huge miss for Mauricio Pochettino’s side and his replacement Vincent Janssen is still searching for his first goal from open play since his summer arrival.

He marked his return to the side with a crucial goal in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal and has now linked up with England during the international break.

Spurs have been boosted by the return of their talisman and are currently fifth-placed in the league, but are the only team in the league unbeaten.

Kane is expected to play a crucial role if the north London club are to challenge for the title and he is the first-choice striker under Pochettino.
