West Ham are about to complete their ninth summer signing after a highly-rated young midfielder passed a medical at the club, according to a report.

The Guardian reported Swiss midfielder Edimilson Fernandes, 20, was travelling to London on Wednesday to undergo a medical with the Premier League club.

A columnist called ‘The Insider’ has now claimed on the official West Ham website that an unnamed young midfielder has passed a medical at the London Stadium.

“I can reveal the Club are hoping to announce the imminent signing of a highly-rated young midfielder after he successfully underwent a medical today,” the Insider wrote.

“The youngster has been one of the star performers for his club.”

The Hammers continue to be in the market for new recruits as manager Slaven Bilic looks to add European experience to his injury-ridden side.

Attacking duo Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew remain crocked, while Aaron Cresswell, Sofiane Feghouli and Manuel Lanzini are all sidelined.

In other West Ham transfer news, this striker is reportedly close to signing in a £24million deal.
