Arsenal legend Paul Merson got his prediction for Tottenham’s clash against Stoke badly wrong this week.

Merson, 48, forecast that Spurs would drop points at the Bet365 Stadium in a 1-1 draw.

Tottenham instead ran out 4-0 winners on Saturday afternoon thanks to a Son Heung-Min double and goals from Dele Alli and a Harry Kane.

“I don’t typically go against Stoke at home because they are a difficult team to beat,” Merson wrote in his Sky Sports cloumn. “They need to get their campaign up and running.

“Tottenham had a fantastic result there last season after they scored early in the game, but the addition of Wilfried Bony brings something different to the table for Stoke.”

Bony did make his first start for his new club but ultimately proved ineffective as Tottenham’s back four kept their second clean-sheet of the season.

The Sky Sports pundit failed to correctly predict a single accurate scoreline from Saturday’s fixtures and perhaps most embarrassingly tipped Manchester United to win the Manchester derby, a game they lost 2-1.

Merson also wrongly predicted Tottenham’s previous result too, believing they would beat Liverpool 2-1 at White Hart Lane before the international break. Instead Mauricio Pochettino’s side drew the game 1-1.

Tottenham have picked up eight points from their first four matches against Everton, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Stoke.

In other Tottenham news, fans were delighted on Twitter as forward Son Heung-Min scored two goals in his first appearance of the season for Spurs.
