Ian Holloway believes it is difficult for Aston Villa to triumph in front of their highly expectant home crowd as he backed Brentford to win 2-1 at Villa Park on Wednesday.

Sky Sports pundit Holloway has backed Brentford to cause another upset after their 2-0 victory at Brighton on Saturday and beat the Midlands side on their own patch in the midweek league encounter.

Villa are unbeaten at home this season, with one win and two draws to their name, but Roberto Di Matteo’s side sit in 17th position in the Championship after a slow start to the campaign.

Holloway had previously predicted Dean Smith’s side to get relegated this season, but the ex-Blackpool boss has now backed the Bees to cause another upset on the road.

“I didn’t see Brentford’s wonderful win at Brighton on Saturday coming,” Holloway wrote in his Sky Sports column. “I put them in the relegation zone in my pre-season predictions and I apologise wholeheartedly, they’ve lost some good players but they’ve got some good ones in.

“What about Scott Hogan’s goal at the weekend? He jinked, he twisted and smacked it in the top corner. Unbelievable!

“So I’m giving another away victory to Brentford. I think it’s difficult for Aston Villa to win at home in front of that crowd when you’re expected to. Brentford will be a tough nut to crack.”

Di Matteo’s side drew their previous game against Nottingham Forest 2-2 at Villa Park, a game in which Holloway had predicted to have a lot of goals.

Villa will be looking to make a push up the Championship table on Wednesday night with a victory, as Brentford have the chance of sitting in an automatic place with a win.

In other Aston Villa team news, Gary Gardner has made this claim after his side were held to a 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest.
