Ian Holloway believes Aston Villa’s miserable start to the season will continue, as he backed Reading to pick up all three points on Tuesday evening.

Sky Sports pundit Holloway has predicted Jaap Stam’s side to record a 2-1 win against Steve Bruce’s men at the Madejski stadium.

Recently-appointed Villa manager Bruce registered a 1-1 draw in his first game in charge on Saturday evening against Midlands rivals Wolves.

Now former promotion winning manager Holloway has explained why Bruce will taste his first defeat as Villa boss.

“I thought Aston Villa had turned the corner when they came back against Newcastle but after watching them on Saturday, I’m not so sure,” Holloway wrote in his Sky Sports column.

“I can’t see Aston Villa winning this game. Confidence is everything in life and those Villa players look like they haven’t got any.

“Steve Bruce has got to get everyone on the same page and moving in the right direction. He has walked into an environment where players go missing and people are emotionally used to losing.

“When is he going to have time to work with the group? I can’t see much changing between Saturday and Tuesday. It’s a mountainous task.

“Reading have a clear identity and will trouble that Villa backline with their clever movement.”

Villa are currently 20th in the Championship table, with 11 points from 12 games and are a point above the relegation zone.

The Midlands side have not registered a win since August and are the draw specialists of the league with eight.

Their opponents for the midweek clash have started the season brightly as they sit in eighth, a point off the play-off places.

In other Aston Villa team news, supporters have been left unimpressed on Twitter with reports linking them with Jordan Rhodes.
