Ian Holloway has predicted Aston Villa to win just their second Championship game of the season against Barnsley on Tuesday night.

The former Blackpool manager has declared that Roberto Di Matteo’s side will come away with a 1-0 victory, as pressure continues to mount on the Champions League winning manager’s shoulders.

Despite just one win in 10 league and cup encounters, Sky Sports pundit Holloway believes that Villa have what it takes to secure a victory at Oakwell and begin their ascent on the Championship table after their late equalising goal against Newcastle on Saturday.

“Aston Villa may have turned the corner with that second-half equaliser against Newcastle on Saturday; they finished the game on top.” Holloway wrote in his Sky Sports column.

“If Newcastle had got another goal they would have been struggling, but the crowd came together, they seemed to lift each other and Roberto Di Matteo’s side were impressive in that second half. I think Villa will forge on from here and it will be tough for Barnsley.”

Villa have made a dismal start to the Championship season, picking up just one win against relegation favourites Rotherham and the Midlands outfit currently sit in 17th place.

Fans aren’t happy with their side’s start to the season, after spending almost £60million on new talent including the likes of Ross McCormack, Jonathan Kodjia and James Chester.

Barnsley are currently playing well above expectations, and sit just one point off the playoffs.

In other Aston Villa news, this former star’s career is under threat after medical tests.
