Ian Holloway has backed Newcastle to beat Rotherham 2-0 at the New York stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Rafa Benitez’ side scored two stoppage time goals to secure a dramatic 4-3 win over promotion rivals Norwich on Wednesday night.

The Magpies now travel to Alan Stubbs Rotherham, who were beaten 2-1 by table toppers Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

Sky Sports pundit Holloway can’t see anything other than a Newcastle win at the weekend, as he backed striker Dwight Gayle to get on the scoresheet once again following his hat trick in midweek.

“I feel for Rotherham because I gave them a 1-0 win the other day and they didn’t get it, but I can’t see them beating Newcastle at home,” Holloway wrote in his Sky Sports column.

“Rafa Benitez’s side will get a big boost from their win over Norwich, and Dwight Gayle could be among the goals again this weekend. Coming back from 3-1 down to win 4-3 could be the result that puts them on a right good run. They are starting to show their pedigree.

“I can’t say a bad word about Rotherham. I feel for their supporters but they should be very proud of where their club is because being in the Championship and hanging on isn’t easy.”

The Millers have not won a league game since beating Brentford 1-0 on August 20, as they sit rock bottom of the Championship with six points from their opening ten games.

In contrast, Benitez’ Newcastle are third with 19 points, and depending on results at the weekend, they could go top of the Championship with a win against Rotherham.

In other Newcastle team news, the club’s senior star is named in the Football Leagues team of the week.
