Ian Wright has urged Arsene Wenger to axe Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla when Arsenal take on Chelsea on Saturday evening.
The duo have started in central midfield in the Gunners’ last three matches and appear almost certain to line up at Emirates Stadium against Antonio Conte’s team.
But former Arsenal striker Wright wants to see something “different” when the two London rivals clash and backed midfield duo Xhaka and Elneny to start against Conte’s men.
“I want to see Xhaka playing and I want to see Elneny playing,” Wright told ArsenalFanTV. “I know Coquelin’s good, he’s done well for us and filled in the gap. The same with Santi [Cazorla].
“But they’re not playing in positons that for me we haven’t got better players who can play there now. I’d like to see Xhaka and Elneny start. I want to see something different.”
Xhaka, 23 has made six appearances in all competitions for the north London club since his £30 million summer transfer from German outfit Borussia Monchengladbach but has failed to nail down a regular starting place.
Elneny has not started a league game since the opening day defeat to Liverpool, with Coquelin and Cazorla starting four games apiece and emerging as the favoured partnership.
Xhaka scored two long range efforts in his sides previous two victories against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup and Hull in the Premier League.
Arsenal and Chelsea are level on points in the Premier League, with ten points each from their opening five games, as Wenger’s side edge their rivals on goal difference.
In other Arsenal team news, Paul Merson has urged his former club to axe this midfield kingpin when they take on Chelsea at the weekend.
