Ian Wright has claimed he cannot see how Arsenal duo Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are going to get back into first-team.

France international Giroud has failed to make a single start for Arsene Wenger’s side this term, with all four of his appearances coming from the substitute’s bench.

By contrast Oxlade-Chamberlain has played eight games in all competitions, but has completed the 90 minutes on only one occasion during the 4-0 win against Nottingham Forest in the EFL Cup.

Wenger has opted to play Alexis Sanchez in a forward role this term, while academy graduate Alex Iwobi’s impressive performances have kept the duo out of the first-team picture.

Former Gunners striker Wright cannot see anyone in the squad demoting in-form Sanchez and Iwobi.

“I am worried for Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,” Wright told the Sun’s Goals podcast as quoted by the Metro. “I can’t see how you’re going to take Alexis Sanchez out of the role because he seems to have found that he likes it.

“Giroud would slow it up and no one can play in front of Iwobi.”

Chilean forward Sanchez has scored five goals and provided five assists in all competitions this term, while Iwobi has provided three assists in six starts out of seven games this season.

As a result the north London club sit third in the Premier League table, with 16 points from seven games, two points off leader Manchester City and a point off rivals Tottenham.

Wenger’s side beat Burnley with a last-gasp Koscielny winner on Sunday to take the side to five straight wins in all competitions.
