Ian Wright believes that Everton striker Romelu Lukaku may choose to leave Goodison Park in the summer amid reported interest from Chelsea.
The Mirror claim that the Premier League leaders will revive interest in the 23-year-old in the summer if they lose forward Diego Costa.
Chelsea failed in their attempts to re-sign Lukaku last summer and the Mirror claimed that it would take £75million to land their target – it is expected the Toffees would hold out for a similar amount.
Ex-Arsenal striker Wright feels that Lukaku may be prepared to force a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer as he looks to continue his development.
“If I was him I’d actually get in my car and phone the manager on the way down to London! I’m off. – I wouldn’t even lock the door,” Wright said, as quoted by the Sun. “This is going to rumble on and if he has to make that decision, he’ll probably leave.”
Lukaku moved to Everton in 2014 from Chelsea for a club-record £28million after failing to force his way into the starting XI.
The Belgium international has become a crucial player for the Merseyside club and has continued that role under current manager Ronald Koeman.
He is the leading goalscorer in the Premier League this season with 16 goals and is regarded as one of the best upcoming strikers in Europe.
However, the 23-year-old has already attained plenty of experience and may be looking to make the next step in his career at high flying Chelsea.
Lukaku has scored a fantastic 78 goals in 152 appearances for Everton and recently struck four times in a 6-3 win over Bournemouth.
In other Everton transfer news, they have made an approach to sign a Manchester City first teamer.
