Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye has revealed that he is not surprised by the emergence of youngster Tom Davies.
The 18-year-old has burst on to the scene this season and has made the breakthrough into the first-team set-up under manager Ronald Koeman.
The central midfielder scooped the PFA Fans’ Premier League Player of the Month for January after scoring one goal and supplying two assists.
He is now competing for a place in the Toffees starting line-up and is tipped to have a huge future with the Merseyside club.
Gueye has explained he is not surprised about Davies’ emergence after watching him impress in training.
“I’m not surprised about Tom (his first-team breakthrough),” Gueye said, as quoted by the club’s official website. “He shows it on the pitch when we train and he has a lot of talent.”
Davies is now competing for a spot alongside the likes of Gueye, Morgan Schneiderlin, James McCarthy and Gareth Barry.
The England Under-19 international has impressed supporters with his energy and he announced himself to the Premier League with a stunning individual goal against Manchester City.
He will be hoping to continue his good run in the side, but Gueye’s return from the Africa Cup of Nations could see his game time restricted.
