Claude Puel, the soon-to-be-named Southampton manager, wants to re-unite with Aston Villa full-back Jordan Amavi, according to a report.
French outlet Nice-Matin claim the French boss wants to re-sign the defender who he managed for three seasons at Nice.
As reported by Football Insider, Amavi posted an ultra-positive Villa tweet on Wedneday in an apparent hint that he wants to stay at the Midlands club.
Amavi, 22, has been linked with an exit from the club after making a sound early impression when he joined Villa last summer from Nice for £10million.
According to the Guardian , former Nice coach Puel will sign for the south-coast club later on this week.
It is said he will then want to make the left-back one of his summer signings ahead of the new Premier League campaign as he plans to build on the work done by Ronald Koeman.
Amavi has four-years left on his Villa contract and is reportedly rated in the £11million bracket.
The France under-21 international is only just getting back to full fitness after injuring his knee on international duty late last year.
But, if Amavi does make the move to St Marys then he will challenging former Villa loanee Ryan Bertrand for a spot in the first team.
