Cheick Tiote could still leave St. James’ Park in the coming days as his representatives look to end his Tyneside stay, according to a report.

Qatar Stars League outfits Al Ahli and Al Sadd are both interested in signing the 30-year-old midfielder, with the Qatari transfer window not closing until September 22.

The Northern Echo claims that the Ivory Coast international’s representatives have sounded out the possibility of moving to either of the two sides before the deadline.

The former FC Twente midfielder has less than 12 months remaining on his current St. James’ Park contract and is unlikely to be offered an extension following the midfield additions of Isaac Hayden and Mohamed Diame.

According to Turkish sports newspaper AMK, Tiote almost joined Euro giants Galatasaray but a move reportedly fell through at the last minute after problems arose during the combative midfielder’s medical.

Tiote has also been rumoured with moves to China and the United Arab Emirates this summer, six years after signing with the north-east outfit in 2010 for £3.5million.

Fans still hold Tiote in their hearts following an impressive stint with the Toon. His finest moment in a Newcastle shirt saw him score a screamer against Arsenal to earn a 4-4 draw.

Tiote has made over 150 appearances for the club, but struggled for consistency and fitness since sustaining a serious knee injury in February 2015.
