Aston Villa are set to hold talks with Hull midfielder Ahmed Elmohamady, according to a report.
Sky Sports claim that the 29-year-old winger is set to leave his pre-season tour in Portugal with Hull and meet with Villa for discussions.
It is understood that the Midlands giants activated a release clause in the contract of the Egypt international.
Elmohamady is a versatile player that is a right midfielder by trade and can also be deployed at right-back if necessary.
Steve Bruce is a big fan of the Egyptian and it would be the third time he has signed him if he completes a move to Villa Park.
Bruce has previously brought him to Sunderland and Hull in the past showing how much he values him.
Elmohamady was unable to prevent Hull suffer a relegation from the Premier League last season, but was a mainstay in the side by making 37 appearances.
He has racked up 165 appearances in England’s top flight and also has played 82 times in the Championship.
Football Insider verdict:
Villa are expected to be competing for the automatic promotion spots next season and the arrival of John Terry has given their squad a real touch of class. However, Bruce knows how difficult a long Championship campaign can be and a move to Elmohamady could be the final piece of the jigsaw. He has put his real stamp on the squad and they should now be one of the strongest in the league. Elmohamady is an extremely useful player due to his versatility and he looks a very useful player in England’s second tier. The Egypt international is a very experienced head and clearly someone that Bruce feels he can trust.
