Alex Iwobi believes that his team-mate Laurent Koscielny has the best football brain in the Arsenal squad.
Iwobi, 20, has emerged as a regular in the club’s senior side this season and has admitted how impressive French defender Koscielny is.
The 31-year-old is regarded as Arsenal’s first-choice centre-back and has become a firm favourite since he moved to the Emirates in 2010 from Lorient.
Iwobi was asked which of his team-mates has the best footballing brain and he ignored the likes of midfield stars Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla.
“I think Laurent Koscielny, the way he reads the game sometimes is just crazy,” Iwobi told programme Soccer AM. “I don’t know how he does it, he is always one step ahead.”
Ozil and Cazorla both offer the creative sparks in the Gunners midfield and are regarded as two of the most intelligent players in the Premier League, but Iwobi has highlighted the importance of their defender.
Koscielny has been a regular under Arsene Wenger since his arrival and now made 263 appearances for the north London club.
The centre-back has emerged as a key figure for both club and country, playing every match in France’s runner-up finish at the European Championships this summer.
He has formed a new partnership at Arsenal this season with German international Shkodran Mustafi and the pair are extremely comfortable in possession.
Koscielny is extremely quick for a centre-back and has been the one regular in the defence over the past five years.
He will now be hoping to help the club lift the Premier League title this season and add to his two FA Cup medals with the Gunners.
