Aston Villa academy graduate Jack Grealish has praised the supporters on Twitter as he builds up his fitness for the forthcoming Championship season.

The Villa midfielder was participating in the club’s pre-season game against Bristol Rovers which they drew 1-1 on Wednesday evening thanks to a goal from striker Jordan Ayew.

The 20-year-old played the full 90 minutes at the Memorial Stadium as he delivered a man-of-the-match performance in front of 1,500 travelling Villa fans.

“Good run out tonight & nice to get 90 minutes,” Grealish posted on his personal Twitter account. “Fans were out in full force & brilliant once again👍🏻 #AVFC”.

Grealish has had a difficult 12 months after making a huge impact when he broke into the team in 2014-15.

Roberto Di Matteo’s men are currently unbeaten during pre-season, winning three and drawing one game so far as they gear up for Saturday’s fixture against French side Nantes.

The Midlands club announced prior to the game that club legend Stiliyan Petrov will not be offered a playing contract, but has been given the opportunity to work with the club in a different capacity.

The Championship side have reportedly fielded an £8million offer from German side Hamburg for Aye but are adamant he will not be sold.
