Jamie Carragher has celebrated a Liverpool victory on Twitter after his former team-mate Steven Gerrard finished on top of a Sky poll between the Reds and Manchester United’s past greats.
The Sky Sports website offered fans to vote for their favourite player of the Premier League era from the two famous rivals before their clash on Monday evening.
Gerrard finished top of the vote with 49,000 fans choosing him, 9,000 more than second placed Luis Suarez and 10,000 more than Cristiano Ronaldo in third place.
Former Reds defender and now Sky Sports pundit Carragher celebrated Gerrard winning the poll on his personal Twitter account, while also claiming a personal victory over former rival and fellow pundit Gary Neville.
Carragher himself finished in 14th place with 24,000 votes, while Neville fell someway behind in 21st with 18,000 votes.
It was a stalemate in the top 10 for the two sides with Gerrard, Suarez, Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Robbie Fowler making up five of the top spots.
However, Liverpool fans will claim the victory with their man finishing in top spot.
The Reds will now be looking for the more important victory on the pitch on Monday evening with the two side’s meeting at Anfield which see’s fourth place take on sixth.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are set to lose the race to sign Uruguay sensation Joaquin Ardaiz.
