Jamie Redknapp has claimed that if Manchester United play out of the back then Liverpool attacking duo Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho “will suffocate their opponents”.

Jurgen Klopp’s side play a high pressing tactic which ensures pressure is put on the opposition at all areas of the pitch.

United boss Jose Mourinho is known for being more reserved in the big matches and setting his side up to not lose, but Redknapp has stated that his fans won’t accept that way of playing against their fiercest rivals.

The Red Devils have tried to play out of the back in the new campaign, but former Reds midfielder and now pundit Redknapp has stated that Coutinho and Firmino won’t allow them to do so and it could backfire on the Manchester club.

“Jose Mourinho would love to go to Anfield and do a number on Liverpool as he did with Chelsea,” wrote Redknapp in his column for the Daily Mail.

“He’ll want to flood the midfield, stifle Liverpool then hit them on the counter-attack.

“As Manchester United manager, he can’t do that. It’s not in keeping with the way their fans want them to play.

“The problem is, if United try to play out from the back Liverpool will be all over them.

“They will put on the high press and the likes of Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho will suffocate United.”

Liverpool have been in red hot form in the new campaign and they will be keen to continue on their five match winning run.

Meanwhile, United have been inconsistent and they will be looking to improve on the 1-1 draw against Stoke in the last fixture.

However, just three points and three places separate the two famous rivals with Liverpool in fourth place on 16 points and United in seventh place on 13 with the tie at Anfield set up to be an enthralling encounter.
