Jamie Redknapp has tipped Liverpool to overcome Stoke without their talisman Philippe Coutinho.

Jurgen Klopp’s side host Stoke on Tuesday and will be hoping to follow up back-to-back away victories over Everton and Middlesbrough.

Liverpool playmaker Coutinho has been sidelined with injury since the 2-0 victory against Sunderland in November, but the club have managed to keep their title aspirations alive .

The 24-year-old was originally set to return for the New Year’s Eve clash against Manchester City, but Klopp has suggested that he is “unlikely” to return on that date.

Redknapp predicts Liverpool to beat Stoke in their next league match and claims Coutinho will be a welcomed return in the New year.

“Philippe Coutinho is a player who they need back fit and firing in the New Year,” Redknapp wrote for Sky Sports. “But with the positivity around the club I think they’ll have too much for Stoke on Tuesday night and keep up their challenge.

Liverpool are currently second-placed in the Premier League table and six points adrift of Chelsea.

The Merseyside club have benefited from no European football this season and have emerged as genuine title contenders.

The Reds have managed to cope without Coutinho in recent games and his replacement Divock Origi has proved his worth to the squad.

Coutinho had been in sensational form before his injury setback, scoring six goals and supplying six assists in 14 appearances across all competitions.

The attacking midfielder is the driving force behind the team and has become a fan favourite at Anfield.
