Mauricio Pochettino has claimed new signing Vincent Janssen gave Tottenham “good energy” in an impressive cameo during his team’s 1-1 draw against Everton on Saturday.

Spurs were a goal down when the Holland striker replaced Eric Dier after 56 minutes at Goodison Park but the visitors equalised soon afterwards through an Erik Lamela header to secure a point.

Pochettino admitted his team were below par in the first half but was more satisfied by the second-half display and praised Janssen following his introduction.

“I think the team felt comfortable [when Vincent came on] and he brought good energy into the team,” Pochettino said, as quoted by the Sky Sports website’s live blog (7.01pm).

“He is a different option to play and it is for this that we signed him. We are very happy with him.”

Janssen is one of only two senior signings made by Tottenham this summer, with midfielder Victor Wanyama the only other major arrival.

Wanyama played the full 90 minutes of the opening-day draw at Everton, while Janssen started on the bench as Pochettino put his faith in the majority of the team who finished third in the league last season.

Harry Kane started as the lone striker, supported by attacking midfield trio Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Lamela.

In other Tottenham news, the club hope to agree three new deals as a fourth is already in place.
